Faith & Rules

Last weeks Alpha session was great. It talks about faith. It is a simple word to say. But then again, it is a word that brings so many meanings behind it and also requires practice...a load of amount as well.

During the Alpha video session, Nick gave a very brief example of the word faith and how it applies to our daily lives. In his, case, it was his own life. The thing about Nick is that he is ordinary looking British guy but with a really wicked sense of hunour.

The scenario took place at his son's football practice. Back then his son was so into football that he practiced twice to thrice times a week with each session last about an hour and a half. As father, Nick was so used to being a supporter, watching from the side, seeing his son played.

One day, the coach decided to have a small match between his small team of players of 22 ( that's what Nick said ) against a team of parents. Everyone agreed until the day of the little match, a team of 22 kids showed up smartly dressed in their school jerseys. Meanwhile, on the parents side, it was only Nick on the scene. No other parents.

The coach, on the other hand, was no where in sight. Seeing the situation, Nick decided to proceed with the match with him as a refereee. But then, Nick a problem. He was not very familiar with the rules. According to Nick, the rules always changed.

As the match went on, there were shouts of " NO! ", "Cheating! ", " That's a foul! ", " He should get a yellow or red card for that serious foul! ", etc. Complains kept coming in and all Nick could say was " Go on...play... ".

The match went on for a while, long enough to see some kids near broke into a scuffle with some minor bruises and bleedings going on. Nick was confused as to what to do with the boys and in desperate need of help in handling the match.

An hour later, after the match started, the coach showed up. And it appeared that the coach had overlooked the time and that was what brought him late to coach the suppose match.

The moment the coach stepped into the field, everything was straighten with whistle blowed couple of times for any fouls went throughout the match. No more arguements. Only commands and shouts from the coach could be heard.

There are two things I learned about this story of Nick's. Rules and faith. One must not treat the Bible as a book of rules. The Bible is actually a manual of life. Faith of course, needs time to build through constant communications. Communication helps to build a strong relationship.
